Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026

ToiletRoute is built around the same honesty standard we apply to our data: we'll tell you plainly what we collect, why, and what we don't — no legalese wall.

Location data

The "Find a toilet near me" feature asks for your browser's location only when you click the button — never automatically. Your coordinates are sent to our server for that one search, used to find nearby results, and are never stored. We don't log your location history, and it's never shared with advertisers or other third parties.

Community reports

Submitting a report (a rating or a comment) doesn't require an account. To prevent spam, we store a hashed version of your IP address with each submission — never your raw IP. New reports are held for moderation before they affect the rating or count shown on a page; approved reports display publicly. One-tap confirmations ("Still accurate?" / "Gone or closed") work the same way: anonymous, hashed IP only, and shown solely as clearly-labeled unverified visitor signals — they never change a place's verified status on their own.

Please don't include personal information (yours or anyone else's) in report comments — see our Terms of Use for what we ask of submissions.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to understand aggregate traffic and page performance. Both are cookieless by design — they don't use tracking cookies or build an individual profile of you, and we don't layer any additional tracking on top. We also keep aggregate counts of visits from known AI crawlers and agents (for example GPTBot or ClaudeBot) so we can see how the site is used as a source — those counts record only the day, the page path, and the agent's user-agent name. No IP addresses, cookies, fingerprints, or locations are stored for them either.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links on ToiletRoute may be affiliate links — if you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are always labeled, and they never influence which places we list, their ratings, or what we say about their access policies — those facts remain evidence-based, commission or no commission.

When you click an affiliate link, you pass briefly through our own redirect, which records only the partner, where on the site the link appeared, and the time of the click — so we can count aggregate clicks per page. It does not record your IP address, your location, or anything that identifies you, and no tracking cookie is set. Once you arrive at the partner's site, their own privacy policy applies.

Advertising

ToiletRoute does not currently run any ads or ad-network tracking. If that changes, this page — and the consent options available to you — will be updated first, and we'll never introduce ad tracking without a clear notice here.

Third-party map and data sources

Our interactive map uses tiles from CARTO and OpenStreetMap; "get directions" links take you to Google Maps. These are separate services with their own privacy policies — we don't control what happens once you leave our site through one of those links.

Accounts

ToiletRoute doesn't have user accounts or logins. There's no email address, password, or profile to manage.

Questions

We don't have a dedicated contact form yet. If you have a question or concern about this policy, the closest option today is our submission page — mention it's a privacy question in the notes field and we'll see it.
